Our Education Philosophy:
We believe everyone can learn to draw and paint; and anyone with the desire to learn will succeed. We will make every effort to insure your success.
Ages served are Teens 14 thru Adult. An interview is required for younger students to determine if they are ready for our program. Because our class sizes are small, we offer a more personal learning experience with plenty of attention given to individual needs.
Students will use various tools and techniques to produce artwork starting with still life objects, such as bottles, vases, and books, etc. When they have demonstrated a basic understanding of core skills, they will examine other subjects such as landscapes, abstract designs, and human forms.
Learning strategies will encompass composition, proportion, symmetry, and color theory,
while producing artwork in pencil, charcoal, pastel, acrylics, and oil paints.
Students will occasionally reproduce works of art by master artists, such as Claude Monet, Leonardo da Vinci, Pablo Picasso, etc. Acquiring knowledge in art history, artist's techniques, and their lives is an important part of the learning process.
Advanced students will develop their own projects under supervision, and learn to construct a portfolio, as well as how to properly care for art and its presentation.
The Razza School of Art provides university-level instruction to build high-caliber painting skills. Whether the goal is to prepare for university, to produce marketable work, or to paint as an avocation, the Razza School pushes each student to extend themselves, discover their personal style, and develop professional-level skills.
Keys to instruction at Razza School are positive outlook and growth mindset, demonstrated by both the teacher and student.
The teacher assists the student to choose a project suited to their current skills. As student works on the piece, the teacher points out the strongest aspects of their work. The teacher then explains techniques the student can apply to develop higher-level skills and take the piece to a more professional level.
At this point, the teacher’s instructions challenge the student to move beyond their comfort zone. The student demonstrates a positive outlook and growth mindset by embracing the teacher's advice and follow through. Indeed, the student’s progress depends on their abilities to flexibly accept the teacher’s prompts and focus on developing and applying new skills.
